The link below will take you to the Cincinnati Enquirer article about Korey Ward winning the State High School Championship - for the second year in a row.

I've helped Korey with his game for about 10 years, now.

Korey's a great example of a good GOLF...SUCCESS Player knowing how and when to 'gather facts' about his game.

Last year Korey told me he didn't want to come look at his swing with me on the Video as the High School season progressed.  I asked a few questions and was totally convinced that was the best thing for him to do, at that time.

Our decision was proven good.  In successive weeks he won his Conference, Sectional, District and State Tournaments.  Quite a Trifecta, plus 1, eh?

But he really did spray the ball, as I watched him, more than he or I would like - at that State Tournament last year.

This High School Season - was different regarding his 'fact-gathering'.  We thought it best to have him see it every week on the Video, just to make sure that absolutely nothing surprising crept into his Full Swing.

That decision was proven good, also.  He won his Conference event by 17 shots, placed second at Sectionals by one shot, won Districts by 4 shots and won State by one shot.

Golfers and Instructors, alike, often look for 'right answers', 'set formulas' and 'program methods' to play good golf.  I, and the Players I help, do not.

We understand the NECCESSITY in honest golf - to vigilantly and constantly be open-minded and humble about whatever may work best for each individual - at any given time - in their development as a Player.

I hope you experience this kind of genuine, thorough, honest GOLF...SUCCESS in your game.

It becomes deeply meaningful, just ask Korey.

Congratulations to Curt Marcott, long-time GOLF...SUCCESS Player.  He and his friend, Phil, won their Flight at the Seabrook Island Member-Guest a couple weeks ago.

Hi Joel,

Things are going well here with my "new" swing.  Attached are my scores from the ten rounds since I last saw you.  The last two 18-hole rounds on Ocean Winds and Crooked Oaks are each within one stroke of my career best on those two courses.  Phil arrives tomorrow, we play a practice round on Wednesday, and our Member-Guest Tournament starts Thursday.

Thanks for all your help.

Curt

Joel,

We won our flight!

Korey Ward played beautifully yesterday in rugged weather conditions at Weatherwax Golf Course to repeat as Southwest District Champion for Division I High Schools.  Ohio has 6 Athletic Districts.

Korey said he thought it was his best-ever round, mentally.  I saw pretty many of the holes he played - as I tried to watch several other GOLF...SUCCESS Players fight the tough weather, also.

Congrats to all of you for getting to Districts!!!

See you in your Lessons this week...and...in Columbus next week at Scarlet & Gray!

Many GOLF...SUCCESS Players advanced to the Southwest Ohio Districts - from their Sectional Qualifiers.  Their next step is to play well at Weatherwax thus getting them to the State Tournament at the Ohio State Scarlet & Gray course.

The boys and girls came from these High Schools: LaSalle, Lakota West, Cincinnati Christian, Oak Hills, Hamilton and St. Xavier.

Especially notable are: Andrew Taske 74, Runner-Up at Miami Whitewater Forest Golf Course and Korey Ward 70, Runner-Up at Glenview Golf Course and Brent Kraft 79, Runner-Up at Walden Pond Golf Course.

I enjoyed watching them compete - and admire their courage to post that score for their school and family and friends.

Smiles at Scoreboard 10-3-09 2-Jr Scramble Scoreboard 10-3-09

Matthew Hammerly and Taylor Suggs won the 2-Junior Scramble this past Saturday at Meadow Links & Golf Academy in Cincinnati.

I've helped Matthew with his game for about 5 years - and Taylor for about 12 years.

Their even-par 31 ended up 3 shots clear of the field.  They hit 8 Greens In Regulation and had 17 putts as a team.

Congratulations to these two gracious young men!!!

I just got word a few hours ago that one of the College Players I help just won his first College Tournament...man, that is gratifying.  I'll tell you more about that great young person in a future Post.

But for now...

Many of you are familiar with Tim Carter of AskTheBuilder.com - and that I've been helping him with his Golf Game for a few years now.

He is a great, congenial and very helpful fella'.  I've really enjoyed getting to know him better - and he has kept me informed about his personal/ unique GOLF...SUCCESS as he has begun spending more time in New Hampshire.  Recently, he sent me another - typically/vividly descriptive - GOLF...SUCCESS update...You can sense his enthusiasm, can't you?

...But I'll be back just before Thanksgiving and will come out for a lesson.  I played two weeks ago and had a fantastic game. Unfortunately had FIVE blowup holes.  Three 8's and two 7's. Convert those to bogeys and I would have shot an 89. I shot a 103. I parred 18, a tough par 5. Usually at the end of the game I run out of gas mentally. During the game I felt great mentally. I only three putted once. The blowup holes were STUPID mistakes that when played over in my head, were just me being too cocky. As Clint Eastwood so famously said, "A man's got to know his limitations."

Bottom line is that as soon as I can PLAY more - I worked just about every day here in Cincy on the bath remodel - I know I'll turn that corner and be in the upper 80's low 90's. I can FEEL it.

You'll love this. I did what you taught me - predicted the Poor Good Average score for that game two weeks ago:  95 - 102 - 116

Was I close or what! And I didn't add the score as  I went. I knew I had a 50 on the front 9 is all. I never add as I go.

Tim Carter
Founder - AsktheBuilder.com # # Do it Right, not Over

I often get asked the question, "Who do you like working with more...Beginners or Low Handicappers?"

In my younger years, I'd say 'both'...and that was really how I felt.

Now, though, as is often the case in my 'older' years...I, politely alter the question a little.  I say, "Y'know, it's not really the scoring level of the player that causes me to enjoy helping some students more than others...it's their mindset/attitude/honesty/humility/sincerity levels...that make some folks a little more enjoyable to work with than others."

Our game really makes it easy for us (and others) to see our 'real self'.  That's one of the things that attracts us to it so much, isn't it?...and what attracts me to so many of you...folks like Tim.

Thanks, again, for allowing me to help you along your 'Golf Journey'.

As the philosopher has, so wisely, said, "Know thy (golf) self."

I do FREE Club Evaluations every Sunday from 2PM-4PM at Meadow Links & Golf Academy in Cincinnati.

You get to find out the state of your present Golf Equipment...is it a perfect fit...kinda' close...or way off.

This is often the first step in purchasing a new set of clubs.  It helps you learn why you've maybe been 'hitting the ball certain ways' since you've had that set.  Maybe you have a favorite club...and just wish 'they all felt like that one'.

I will do it this Sunday through the end of September - then we're done for 2009.

Hope to see you!

Here is some great news from a couple of very proud GOLF...SUCCESS Parents about their sons at College Tryouts:

COLIN REENAN, St. Xavier '08 Ohio  H.S. Team State Champion   Butler University Golf Team

Joel.........I thought I would let you know how Colin did through the frst weekend of try outs. He did fantastic!!! There are 15 players trying out either to make the team or for the first tournament placement. He is in 3rd place, 3 strokes behind the only scholarship freshman and 2 strokes behind their #1 player. He shot 72 the first day at Eagle Creek and 75 yesterday at The Trophy Club (he said they played at 7300 yards). There were only 3 scores in the seventies yesterday so Colin played very well. He has 2 more rounds left, 18 at Prestwick Country Club(he played there last week) and the final round Sunday at Eagle Creek. Keep your fingers crossed and say a little prayer that he keeps it going.  Thanks for all of your work with Colin.

Joel.........Colin just called us and said he had made the team!! He went on to tell us that he not only made the team but he will be playing in the Nebraska Invitational on Sept. 14th and 15th. He shot 72, 75, 79, 72. They played twice on the Trophy Club Course in Avon, Ind. at 7300 yards. Thanks for all of your help and I will have Colin call you.

Wes Denny  Sycamore H.S. '09    Air Force Academy

Wes played 9 rounds of golf 9 over and with a 73 stroke average he finished 3rd in qualifying on his team!  So he hopes to be traveling with the team.

They play twice in New Mexico once at their own tournament, once in D.C. At ANDREWS AFB and then to Oahu, Hawaii (Turtle Bay Resort) in early November!

(Don't know their spring schedule yet other than they go to Pebble Beach over spring break......)

CONGRATULATIONS to these long-time GOLF...SUCCESS Players!!!
